FAM: the family game with a digital family tree and time capsule
FAM is a game for the whole family and, at the same time, the archive that grows out of it. You take turns drawing cards with questions and tasks about your family and answer with a photo, a video or a voice recording.
Every answer stays as a memory on that family member's profile in your shared digital family tree. In the time capsule you later slide back through everything you collected: photos, videos and the voices of your family, each recording also written out as text.

What FAM gives you
- Draw a card & guess the answer: Over 100 questions and tasks that truly bring your family closer. New: every card can be read aloud, in English, German and Russian, with natural-sounding voices to choose from.
- Card sets: Browse all question cards, sorted into themed decks. Activate the sets that suit you, or grab more in the shop.
- Your own cards: Design your own question cards in the FAM look: question, timer, points, medium, colour and your own icon.
- Remote sessions: Family on the other side of the world? Start a remote session and play together, each on your own device.
- Memories in one place: Your family's photos, videos and voices, collected to rediscover. In the new time-capsule view you slide through the moments. Every voice message is transcribed to text.
- PDF export or print: Export your family tree, albums and memories as an elegant PDF or order it all as a printed book delivered to your door. Freely choose people, contents and one of five designs.
- A family tree that grows with you: Every answer, photo and voice message automatically lands in the right person’s profile and stays forever in your shared family archive. With every person you add, your tree keeps growing.
- Family calendar and reminders: Birthdays, wedding anniversaries and other important family dates sit together in one calendar overview. If you like, FAM sends you an e-mail in good time, so nobody misses a day.
- Your own designs, colours and icon packs: Pick the colour themes and icon packs that suit you — from calm dark blue to the tree design on parchment.
- Collect, seal, play: Build albums from your memories, share them or seal them as a time capsule. Several albums become one big slideshow in true fullscreen. Everything else fades away.
- Your family on the map: Add trips as their own object. Every stop becomes a pin on a real, zoomable map. Alongside your tree, your shared map grows too.
- Where your family comes from: Record where your ancestors were born and where they later moved to. The map then traces which places your family comes from, which path each generation took and how far across the world you find yourselves today.
Frequently asked questions about FAM
What is FAM?
FAM is a family game for every generation. You take turns drawing cards from over 100 questions and tasks about your family and answer with a photo, a video or a voice recording. Every answer becomes a memory in your shared digital family tree. Play around one table or remotely over a video call.
What is the time capsule in FAM?
The time capsule is the view that holds every moment you have collected. A slider takes you back through the years, showing your family's photos, videos and voice recordings again. Every recording is also written out as text so it stays findable.
How does the digital family tree work?
Every family member gets a profile with a photo, a date of birth and their own story. The profiles connect into a tree through parents, children and partners. Memories from the game collect on those profiles, so the tree grows with every round. It can be exported as a PDF to print or bind as a book.
Who is FAM for?
For families of two or more, from grandparents to children. If you are not at the same table, join a remote session: everyone sees the same card and answers from their own device.
What does FAM cost?
FAM is in a closed beta test and free for the testers. Enter your e-mail address on fam-spiel.de to join the beta list and you will get your access by e-mail.
Where are our photos and voice recordings stored?
On servers in Germany, in our own storage rather than at a large provider. If you prefer, keep your media in a folder on your own device instead. The site hosts its fonts itself, so nothing is requested from Google for them either.
Do you need the printed cards?
No. There is a printed starter pack, but the whole card deck is in the app as well and can be read aloud. You can add your own cards with your own questions.
Which languages does FAM speak?
English, German and Russian. That includes the cards read aloud, with several natural-sounding voices to choose from.
